Podcast of the Week (School of Greatness #143)

This week's Podcast of the Week is episode #143 of the School of Greatness Podcast with host, Lewis Howes.

In this episode he interviews, in person, Jack Canfield, author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books.  They discuss Canfield's greatest book, Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.  Click the image below to listen!

I want to expose you, the audience, to things that are meant to uplift and improve your life. Canfield's Success Principles is probably one of the greatest things I can introduce you to.

The principles in this book are proven over and over again by successful people and really are universal no matter what your situation is.

The website for Jack Canfield's 10-Year Anniversary Edition of Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.  Show proof of purchase and you'll receive so many free extras to change your life that it's worth buying the book new even if you already own the original version, or if you're not sure it's worth the purchase (it is soooo worth it even without the extras!).

Don't network by promoting yourself.  Networking is about Visibility, Credibility, Profitability.  Get to know people, see what they're up to, find out if you can add value to their project(s), later on let them know that you do (x) and that you'd like if they connected you with people looking for what you offer.

"Open Tube"  When talking with someone, don't stand face to face, leave a spot open on the side where someone else can come into the conversation.

At parties and social functions, connect and introduce people.  Act like the host.

Take Responsibility for Your Life.  Then be clear about your purpose.  What do you want to do in life?  Create clear visions about your goals.  Write them down!

Use things like affirmation and visualization to turbo charge your vision with intention.  It's like a personal GPS for life.  Set your destination and your subconscious mind will end up figuring out how to get you there.

"Fear is the Mindkiller."
-Frank Herbert, Dune

EFT Tapping.  A series of acupressure points that you can tap that will dissolve fears.  Fear is created  by imagining bad things that haven't happened yet.  When you realize this you can flip the script and tell yourself the opposite story.  Visualize a positive outcome and fear disappears.

You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.  Surround yourself with people doing what you want to do, at the level you want to be at.

Mastermind groups.  Absorb as much uplifting material as you can.  Books, videos, podcasts, seminars, webinars, coaching services, etc.  Inundate yourself with this material and it will become part of your subconscious.

Success leaves clues.  Learn more, earn more.

Let go of your resentments.  They are like anchors holding you back as you're trying to move forward.  Own your anger and your hurt.  Own your fear, remorse, and regret.

Replace negative self-talk with positive self-talk, instead of getting upset.  Be in a place where everything you say and do contributes to the upliftment of the people around you.

Eliminate negative self-talk!

The only beliefs that matter are the ones that take you to where you want to go.  There are only two choices in beliefs, the ones that take you where you want to go and the ones that do not.  That's it.

Practice Uncommon Appreciation.  Realize what you do have.  You might not be well-off, but most of the human species lives in poverty, on $2 a day.  If you're on welfare, you still have more than those other people.

Appreciate 5 things a day, 5 people a day.  Have an Attitude of Gratitude.  Look at the things around you, other people helped make those things possible.  Be grateful.

Being ungrateful is like saying, "I don't have enough."  Abundance is about focusing on what you do have.

Always carry a $100 bill in your wallet/pocket.  You'll always feel like you have money.

Rampage of Appreciation.  Take 5 minutes, walk around the place you are at, whether home or otherwise, and appreciate the things around you.  The art on the wall, the carpet someone installed, the bed someone made, the running water, the air conditioning, etc.

Pay Yourself First.  Tithe 10% of earnings to yourself first before anything else.  Accumulate your wealth so you have something to make moves with.  If you're too poor to do this, work until you can do this.

Embrace Change.

2 Types of Change:

Cyclical Change (ex: change of the seasons)

Disruptive Change (ex: invention of the automobile)

You have to adapt to change, keep paying attention.  The problem is that we're sort of built to resist change.

Evolutionarily, change meant danger.

Jack only responds to 5 emails a day, it's about cutting out distractions.  If you don't limit your interactions, if you don't learn how to say "no," then you might end up getting nothing done.

Every morning when you come in, take your #1 Goal and spend the first 90 minutes working on that.
